What a surprise...
I wanted something a little different when I selected this one and I believe that is what I got.
What You See Isn't Always What You Get was a lot more story than I was expecting. This was a story about finding love, loosing it and finding it again, about doing the right thing, standing up for what you believe in and who you believe in, honesty and truth, relationships. It touched on so many things, so beautifully.
I really don't do a lot of alternate reality, steampunk or even fantasy when I'm reading m/m stories. I'm not sure why, I just don't. In a way it surprises me because I enjoy fantasy in general. A number of my favourite authors write in that genre of one of it's sub-genres. So needless to say this book has sat in my TBR pile for a little while now. But in a moment of weakness I selected it and started reading and reading and reading until it was midnight and I was done.
Richard and Denny share an interesting pairing and for reasons that unfold slowly throughout the story I began to realize that as well as the obvious there were some less obvious reasons that they fit together so well.
There's so much more that I want to say about this story, but I'm finding it hard to really say anything without giving away details and this is a story that is built on details. So all I'm going to say is I was taken by surprise with this one and pleasantly so. It's not a happy, fluffy story by any means. It has some light fun moments, it also had moments that made me want to curl up in a ball in the corner and cry all the tears...and oh yeah, it also had some damned sexy moments too. So again a little of everything coming together to make for a lot of good reading.
